Thirties Thursday

Here's a selection of 1930s travel posters; all works of art. Take a moment to enjoy them and the glamourous trips they promote. Remember, these posters came out while the Great Depression was going on. Obviously some people were doing just fine.

  1. There's something about that artwork that puts you in the right time zone. I wonder if we have anything distinctive in our decade?

  2. Elspeth - Ah, such luxury! Love that "Egypt" poster especially. I wonder if it was also a case of escapism. Even people who couldn't begin to afford a vacation could dream....

  3. These are amazing! I especially love the Holland America one...sort of an art deco feel to it somehow...

  4. Terry; Time will tell!

Margot; I'm sure you're right - you might not be able to go, but you can dream!

Elizabeth; The art deco feel is certainly there, isn't it?
