Too Much of a Good Thing

I can appreciate the beauty of this...

and the peacefulness of this...

and the relaxation of this...

and the romance of this...

and the cuddliness of this...

If that's all there is in your plot, it's going to be dull.

So, remember to add a bit of this...

or a flash of this...

or even...this!

and then your readers will appreciate this.

  1. Wow, what gorgeous photos. Love the storm pictures. Maybe I'm feeling stormy today? LOL

  2. Elspeth - Your post couldn't have come at a better time for me. As I revise, fix, fold, spindle and mutilate ;-) my WIP, one question I'm faced with is, how much of that figurative and literal rain should I include. I mean, it's a murder. That's bad. People die. On the other hand, the case gets solved. The culprit is caught. That's good. Important balance...

  3. Maryann; I'm glad you liked the pictures; hurrah for Google Images!

Margot; It can be a tricky balancing act, can't it? I'm confident your WIP is wonderful with just the right mix of sunshine and rain.

  7. And it's so much fun to torture our characters and create obstacles for them to trip over! :) Thanks for the reminder.

  8. Timely reminders, although I did get snagged by your cuddly picture. :) Off to think of more obstacles now.

  9. Yes fantastic photos, especially the tornado! I once saw a tornado like that, it was fantastic, really scary but fantastic.

  11. Great pictures, and a great point to make. It's so true, that no conflict = no story! Thanks for such a visual reminder!
