Thirties Thursday

The genius of Charlie Chaplin showcased here in a tiny snippet from "Modern Times", which was the swan song for silent movies. In case you're wondering, the actress is Paulette Goddard. Miss Goddard would be on the short list to play Scarlett O'Hara.

  1. Elspeth - Charlie Chaplin is most certainly an icon of his age. He was so very talented, wasn't he? And what an appropriate name for that film... The cinema world changed so dramatically after the integration of sound and later, colour.

  2. It's amazing how fast things changed. I wasn't 'quite' born when this came out, but Chaplin is definitely someone in my lifetime.

  3. Margot; He certainly was a genius when it came to comedy. Have you ever seen the movie starring Robert Downey Jr.? It's one of my favourites.

Terry; I remember seeing him appear at the Oscars when he was very old. What a life he had!
