What the Heck?

Gentle reader...

Join me on a typical editing journey of discovery...

At the beginning of the story, your MC looks like this...

with eyes like this...

and enjoys doing this...

BUT SOMEHOW....

IN THE MIDDLE...

he's shrunk to this...

and his hair has suddenly done this...

and those...

are now sporting these...

AND IN THE END...

He's somehow stretched back to this...

and no longer wears these...

But...

Remember his big...

Well...

they have mysteriously morphed into this...

  1. What a perfect reminder to keep the details straight. Love the way you do this in pictures.

  2. MY FAULT? No way, I am sure my characters do it to me when I turn my back. Just like the girls in my classes who change hair colour & style every third week - just to confuse me.

  3. Aren't contacts wonderful?

oo funny and yet s-o-o true.

  4. Sorry about the too. I can't laugh and type at the same time. (There are days I can't type at all.)

  5. Oh gosh---continuity errors are so easy to make! I really need to just keep a list of this stuff...

  6. Elspeth - It's so interesting, isn't it, how all of those trees get in the way of that forest we're trying to create. I often find myself changing things about my characters to suit the story. And then I see those blatant mistakes and cringe. Not a fun feeling. Thank goodness for search-and-replace :-).

  7. Maryann; Thanks! These Wednesday posts are fun to compose.

    Dorte; I'm sure you're right!

Mary; I'm glad you liked it...and contacts are a good solution!

Elizabeth; Aren't they? I've also had trouble keeping names consistent...

Margot; Yes; thank heaven! I guess we're so busy focusing on the story that little details like eye colour (or *names*) can get lost along the way.

  8. Yep. That's what happens. No matter how hard we try. Yep.
