Once upon a time...
You discovered you had this...
![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrWVvdjAACChyphenhyphen6mwxaFRYq78EBf8OF7KWoqmKrRcJDiLIS2Av-UMfN4lfeO2FeSwQGl9Xzldzqf25wyJ_KCwoNeUZLOGsSMogs1Mb-7rnndI917iVkQfd754CUYuV0xwBhhuxZBxjAdDo/s400/images-1.jpeg)
and you were brave enough to face that blank sheet of paper
and do this...
![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhza9IECASpCXe42r63Xja4a38S644L0KfqWiAyuA45SWPyIRhPxmYNmfPuTWdUr20jUzpHFGxbt5wiSzlaRK2PkJ-M8POFwDgqdK7h99aMIiBwFausFGA8BN9rQlw4_Pv2XT2CtiiN1V8/s400/DownloadedFile-1.jpeg)
and after a long time your first draft looked rather like this...
![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzKcJ86f_2Dv4zl0KdLGOIIuFECtsmJVou-NWgsBHtd0vAgKqhghIym8ncgp6RoRoCpZ4NnyNp7iZv-NXHiz_Hc2o7VmZcWqsnEVTplTdk92sXiVgKgRd7VhZxzfMmA2fgwadeEBA730U/s400/images.jpeg)
Now, you still needed to do plenty of this...
![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxVlB7TFgmN2RTYLzkTtT_Iwh_5zzi-mfSdnrXf_6HPe8q2zBVmcHw442Hv3Qn4Qj_L80ASywSrKL82IGP5qrXgKbS31NJ60-PHj49XHXLtBX5xeW76H0gCNV4oft3X-Cn0_21QwWzkLs/s400/DownloadedFile-2.jpeg)
and spend a great deal of time doing this...
![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtN2zxB6E5EQU6w4iLHAGpdHASt34NBq-jk-xfZAq1t26VX1nUaHRabfJPjdl4zWmlPVobKXVIPKlUmnr6sAEKhgMERI4zDHNBrG-lRspEMA7VBE-D8jFtZVTtONAOTxENVV-F_va2C80/s400/DownloadedFile-3.jpeg)
and hope for enough days like this...
![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrAIKriM_P725e5SJ-aQixCXL_USV7OC6_9uXRQj4nhI1cmiXIJvqOarRbUCP_rgzk7u67EjEDzzbE-vU1eQOIzwmw9jcHtONXRrlILoPexeZFb_4e6kEjs5HWpqGPpgoilhIeo7_edLU/s400/images-3.jpeg)
But if you do the work...
You will eventually see this...
![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaMoZic3AbzJx2LgTaELd0asly9Q5xGEZVb6onD3UJkRi2RUglYdmVEldhH1KPvIzyM1hcLLJZ02BxnQrq2irg1532L4ClqF64LdfiPzUi7Gw3IQnf3cFU6XYwIyb3c3xOw6UrZTLmHXA/s400/images-2.jpeg)
Even though it's back-breaking, (and boring) keep up with your this...
![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxVlB7TFgmN2RTYLzkTtT_Iwh_5zzi-mfSdnrXf_6HPe8q2zBVmcHw442Hv3Qn4Qj_L80ASywSrKL82IGP5qrXgKbS31NJ60-PHj49XHXLtBX5xeW76H0gCNV4oft3X-Cn0_21QwWzkLs/s400/DownloadedFile-2.jpeg)
and be ruthless with this..
![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi25byXdVu5kBw7KV_YgDulY_frmHmn4diG2TPu17nGYOnDKPWHWPrG3sbdauJK9TisYd_K_dQWRxREqtRohccqCsWN0-4wFJWdFFtPKGmrwGCN6vjmOAHzpCNYOTceZHfFC3awUI4YpNI/s400/images-7.jpeg)
Remember you don't have to do it alone...
or...who knows?
Your this...
just might have grown into this...
Elspeth - Wonderful analogy!! All the stages of growing plants are really similar to creating a story. And what's really exciting is there are all sorts of stories to tell, just as a gardener/farmer can plant any number of things...
ReplyDeleteI think it's important to recognize that writing is WORK and a manuscript doesn't spring up overnight like Jack's beanstalk. It needs nurturing.

Great picture story.
ReplyDeleteBrava!!!
ReplyDelete:)
Margot; I'm glad you like it Here's to happy growing!
ReplyDeleteTerry; I never meant the last picture to be taken like that. My intention was to give the idea that you might have written something magical - not that it sprang up over night.
Carol; Thanks!
Elisa: *bows* *throws a kiss* *looks amazingly humble*
Elspeth - that possible interpretation of my comment occurred to me after I hit 'submit' (of course). I didn't mean to imply that you were suggesting it would happen overnight, only that it's a slow process (as indicated by the rest of your pictures.) Sorry for the misleading comment.

You know I love your posts but my grandkids get a kick out of the as well.
ReplyDeleteMary; Thanks for letting me know! I'll now promote myself as "appealing to many generations..."
ReplyDeleteLove the story. You said in pictures and a few words what I once blogged about paralleling writing with gardening. Your way is prettier.
ReplyDeleteMaryann; It is a good metaphor for writing, isn't it? Thanks for your kind words.
