10 Questions to Drive a Writer Wacky

10. Have you finished yet?

9. Am I in it?

8. Is it any good?

7. Did you make it up yourself?

6. Will I like it?

5. Can I have ten free copies for my friends?

4. You're writing a whole book?

3. Is it boring?

2. Are you rich?

1. Since all you do is write, I'm sure you wouldn't mind helping with (fill in the blank), would you? After all, everyone else works.

If you've ever had to deal with any of these questions, please feel free to take a generous slurp of the drink of your choice.

  1. A bit early for a drink but if I was going to have one it would be a ginger martini. How do I make that - I put a couple of ounces of ice cold vodka in a martini shaker with a half-ounce of ginger wine and some ice. Shake, strain and add a piece of gingered candy. Leads to fronking.

  2. Jan; That sounds delish; where would I find ginger wine?

Terry; Annoying - and almost unanswerable without sounding either overly humble or overly grand.

  3. Elspeth - Oh, I've heard a bunch 'o them. And this one: "Oh you write? What a great hobby!" Grrrrr!!!!!!

  4. Margot; Those are the people I tell that our family holiday last year was paid (for the most part) by my royalties...

  5. I mostly get #1, followed by #10. And the recent #7 phenomenon. I'll have a Samuel Adams, followed by a Margarita, and maybe a glass of water so I don't fall down.

  6. Carol; What is a Samuel Adams? I hear you about #10; although I think I ask myself it more than others ask me. Maybe. It might be a tie.

  10. #10 has to be the worst! Especially when you've been editing and editing and rewriting and everyone you know keeps asking the same stupid question. I need a drink just thinking about it:)

  15. My 14-year-old gives me the #10, of course followed by a quick #9, then a modified #2. (It comes out, "When will you be rich?")
Everyone else in my family gives me #10!
