Elspeth - Oh, a cuddly monster and the sheep! My day is made!! And I like your point, too, about how stories end. Mine don't tend to have exactly joyful endings; I write murder mysteries. People die. So I wouldn't say happy, but I do try to have hopeful endings, if that makes sense.
ReplyDeleteRomantic suspense requires that HEA, although I try to leave things open-ended to a degree. That let me write a sequel using the same characters, which is not the norm in romance.
ReplyDeleteRight now, the ending of my current WIP is (as always) lame and in need of rewriting. Ugh.

Funny! Well I'm working on a romance right now so I DO get a happily ever after- of course after a lot of sadness and drama.

ReplyDeleteMargot; Even in mysteries, there has to be an end - although in our case it's usually someone being led away in handcuffs rather than riding into the sunset.
