Wouldn't it be wonderful if the writing road was like this?

But we know it's far more likely to be like this...

or this...

or even this...

You don't get a sign like this...

So you're likely to feel like this...

But don't ever do this...

Even on days when you're feeling like this...

You'll come to enjoy this...

and even this...

Because you know you will eventually see this.

Yes, that describes my writing road perfectly.

Elspeth - You've expressed what writing is like better than I could have dreamed of doing myself. I think my favourite is the encouragement not to stop, even on those "Do Not Enter" days. Or days when you hit a "Dead End." You can always turn around and go back, and sometimes, the detours turn out to become the coolest plots.... :-).
ReplyDeleteClarissa; I think it's a road we're all familiar with...
ReplyDeleteMargot; Thank you for the compliment. I blush. Personally, I'm learning to ignore the "Do Not Enter" sign and just plow ahead. Not as easy as it sounds.
Elspeth, I really loved this post. It captures very well a state I'm often familiar with. Although I've come to love the detours.
ReplyDeleteAhh, the old double loop detour. That one grabs me most often.
ReplyDeleteRight on as usual, Elspeth.
Elizabeth; Thanks so much for taking the time to let me know you enjoyed the post. I'm glad you love detours - I usually find them annoying.
ReplyDeleteMary; The double loop - takes you in circles and you end up exactly where you started. It's a joy.
Great post! I love the detours, but not the do not enter days. :)
ReplyDeleteToday my writing road has been that detour sign times about a million or so. Did I say I hate days like this?
ReplyDeleteLove Love LOVE!!!!
ReplyDelete:)
Perfect!
ReplyDeletePerfect; I'm caught up by at least half these signs at the moment. Especially the detour (although if it's a romantic suspense, stopping to deal with the relationship isn't really a detour, is it?)
